Kames Castle Cottages - Isle of Bute, Scotland


Kames Castle is situated in near the village of Port Bannatyne, north of Bute's main town of Rothesay. Bute is easily accessible from Scotland's mainland via two ferry ports. The main route is from Wemyss Bay (pron.Weems) to Rothesay. The second crossing is from Colintraive on the Argyll mainland. This disembarks at Rhubodach (pron.Roo-bow-duch - like the ch on loch) north of Kames Castle From Wemyss Bay the crossing takes about 35 mins. When you arrive at Rothesay turn right off the ferry and drive north for about 3 miles through Port Bannatyne. About 300m past the village is a left turn for Ettrick Bay. Take this left turn and the entrance to Kames Castle is immediately on the right. From Rhubodach you will approach this same junction from the opposite direction. It is about 5 miles from the ferry.
