The Isle of Bute is a westerly Scottish island situated in the outer Firth of Clyde. Bute is accessible by a regular ferry service from the mainland. The principal route to the island is by car & passenger ferry from Wemyss Bay on the North Ayrshire coast. The crossing takes half an hour with sailings every 45 minutes at peak times. Wemyss Bay terminal can be reached by train as well as by car. For air travellers there are frequent flights into both Glasgow and Prestwick airports, each about 45 minutes from Wemyss Bay.
Alternatively, there is a short crossing from the Cowal peninsular at Colintraive to the Northern tip of the island at Rhubodach. For those travelling from the South or East, this will add about an hour to your journey, but it is a beautiful drive along Loch Fyne with spectacular views of the iconic Kyles of Bute.
