The dragons of Kames Castle

The legend of Tine & Deatach, the dragons of Kames Castle

At the centre of Kames estate is the 14th century keep, Kames Castle. This Scottish castle was built to defend from invasion and protect those inside. It's stone walls are 5 feet thick in places. The battlemented parapet at the top of the tower has far reaching views over land and sea, with arrow slits for archers to ward off invaders. There is only one way in and one way out - a single studded oak door.  On the south side of the castle sit two small dragons, Tine and Deatach. When sleeping they are small and stone-like. But, legend has it, when the castle comes under attack they awaken, return to full size and guard the castle fiercely with smoke and fire.

Younger guests staying in the cottages can write a story about the dragons and send to us. We will select one each month to publish on our website.
