Visit the wonderful Anchor Tavern Pub & Hub!
The Anchor Tavern is located at 33 Marine Road, Port Bannatyne – a pleasant ten minute walk along the sea front from the gates of Kames Castle Cottages. This is a wonderful, community owned pub and hub and one of the best establishments on the island. It is the perfect spot to relax in after a day exploring the beautiful island of Bute and even has a log fire to keep visitors toasty on those colder evenings. The Anchor Tavern offers an authentic Scottish pub experience where locals and visitors alike can expect a friendly welcome – including four legged friends. Indeed in an upcoming edition of the FT’s How to Spend it (January 25th), the Anchor is listed as one of the best pubs to visit in the UK. We would highly recommend it to guests staying at our holiday cottages at Port Bannatyne.
This free house has a wide variety of local beers, gins, and wines. Of course visitors can also choose from a selection of fine Scottish Whiskies. There are regular curry nights and on other days visitors the staff will help you order from local eateries and will even supply recyclable plates as needed.
There are regular live music sessions and also jam sessions throughout the week for those that would like to join in. In addition to live music, the hub and pub offer a number of communtiy events such as Crafty Hands and Needles & Natter – for the latter why not take your own project along and join this friendly group for a couple of hours of craft and a blether. Check out their Facebook page for more information about these and other seasonal events, such as for Christmas and St Andrew’s day.
Work is well underway for a new bakery adjacent to the pub – another element of this fabulous community led project. A great new addition to Port Bannatyne, the Eider Bakery is due to open it’s doors in April 2025 – so handy for guests staying in the holiday accomodation at Kames.
The new Hub@35 can be used for community events. Please contact them directly for more information admin@PBDT.org
