Kames Castle Cottages, Port Bannatyne offer dog friendly cottages on the Isle of Bute. We welcome dogs in three of our cottages :  Catan Cottage , Ninian Cottage and Colmac Cottage . Our dog friendly cottages are situated in 20 acres of private grounds, surrounded by fields in Port Bannatyne, Bute. The large lawns and small wooded area are perfect for people holidaying with their four legged friends.

Beyond the estate gates there are lots of dog walks on the Isle of Bute. Here are five suggestions :

Just a stone’s throw from the estate is Kames Bay. At low tide dogs can run on the shore. At other times there is a scenic route along the road – turn left for a relatively short walk in the direction of Rhubodach. Turn right towards Port Bannnatyne past the marina enjoying views over the Cowal Pennisula. Why not stop at the wonderful community run  pub, the Anchor Tavern, for a well deserved drink. Link to Anchor Tavern

Dogs are welcome at Ettrick Bay, a long stretch of sandy beach about a 5 minute drive from Kames Castle Cottages. Dogs can burn off some energy on the sand or enjoy splashing in the sea. There’s even a tearoom serving light bites and delicious cakes.

Kilchattan Bay is at the southern end of the Isle of Bute. This is a lovely, quiet spot with little beaches and rocky outcrops. As sheep are roaming free here, dogs should be kept on a lead. The terrain can also be uneven and rocky – so it may not be suitable for all.

Energetic dogs and dog owners can tackle sections of the West Island Way which lead through a range of landscapes across the island. The full route is 47 miles and is usually tackled over a number of days. Link to West Island Way

The Bute Community Forest is located on the North side of Bute. There are a number of walking routes, including the Balnakailly Loop and the Kayak Shelter. Check out their website for more information. Link to Bute Community Forest
